DIVISION MANAGER / DITCHTENDER / RELIEF / MAINTENANCE WORKER

SALARY

$19.99 - $22.20 per hour.

Must be able to work nights and weekends.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the distribution of irrigation water to farmers within assigned division; performs varied duties in the construction, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of irrigation canals, ditches, pipelines, pump lines, and structures.

During the irrigation season, runs water for irrigation purposes and performs related duties on a shift basis; prepares reports, keeps time sheet, and maintains a water run report.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Personally contacts irrigators during irrigation season to determine number of acres that will be under irrigation, the types of crops that will be planted, and other pertinent information.
  2. Accepts requests for water and schedules according to the irrigation cycle established by the Board of Directors; orders water needed to supply assigned division and other divisions at scheduled times.
  3. Makes water measurements and ensures proper flows and orderly delivery to his customers; makes a concerted effort to notify customers of irrigating times in advance of delivery; ensures that customers receive notification of irrigating times prior to their respective irrigations; checks with customer to verify correct water delivery.
  4. Operates District headgates, turnouts, slide gates, valves, and diversion gates to maintain proper irrigation levels and delivery flows.
  5. Inspects the District’s irrigation works, facilities, and appurtenances within an assigned division for leaks, breaks, unauthorized diversions, and obstructions which may endanger District facilities or hamper or delay the flow of water through the system.
  6. Responds to emergency calls during assigned shift pursuant to established procedures.
  7. Accurately and legibly prepares break and flood reports.
  8. Maintains detailed water usage records for each irrigated parcel; completes time sheets, water run, and vehicle maintenance reports; prepares annual maintenance reports and crop reports as they relate to the facilities and acreage with the assigned division.
  9. Operates, monitors, and services high discharge wells; monitors and makes records of observation well readings within the assigned division.
  10. Ensures that water is not wasted by arranging scheduled irrigation deliveries to provide for agricultural drainage as a means to meet downstream irrigation needs.
  11. Division Managers are responsible for directing Ditchtenders and Division Manager Relief to ensure the smooth operation of the assigned Division.
  12. Performs minor maintenance work to ensure the proper working condition of District irrigation pumps, facilities, vehicles, works, and appurtenances within the division.
  13. Installs and replaces concrete pipe, control boxes, and slides; repairs and patches pipe.
  14. Reports incidences of trespass and vandalism, and situations involving discharges of wastes and contaminants.
  15. Performs the duties of the Maintenance Worker classification during the non-irrigation season.
  16. May provide training to new employees.
  17. Performs related duties as required.
