$78,395.00 annually.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general direction, plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates the maintenance and repair of District vehicles and equipment; provides highly responsible and technical staff assistance.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
  2. Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates skilled craftsmen engaged in the maintenance and repair of District equipment; makes initial inspection in difficult cases and diagnoses trouble; inspects work in progress and upon completion.
  3. Formulates, prepares, and recommends for approval policies, procedures, studies, and reports.
  4. Purchases and maintain an inventory of needed supplies and materials; participates in the purchasing of equipment and vehicles.
  5. Supervises maintenance of equipment used in the shop; inspects shop tools and equipment for condition and proper use.
  6. Ensures that work is done in accordance with accepted standards and safe work practices.
  7. Assumes responsibility for the purchase and licensing of vehicles.
  8. Prepares and administers the division budget that includes fuel, oil, vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
  9. Coordinates shop activities with other District departments and divisions, and with other agencies.
  10. Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.
  11. Responds to emergency situations and is on call as assigned.
  12. Provides needed assistance in the maintenance and repair of headquarters buildings, offices, appurtenances, and contents.
  13. Determines the need to meet major expenses for shop tools, machinery, and equipment purchases.
  14. Oversees all shop operations and work performed by employees.
  15. Coordinates repair duties with other departments.
  16. Researches and negotiates with outside vendors for collision damage and major repairs.
  17. Keeps employees apprised of the current advances and trends in equipment repairs, parts, materials, and technology used to diagnose equipment problems.
  18. Monitors the safety and work practices of employees.
  19. Promotes and practices job safety; holds periodic safety inspections and trains employees to be safety conscience.
  20. Assures that all equipment leaving the shop is in proper working condition and that other items requiring further work or additional parts on said equipment have been properly documented.
  21. Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in facilities and equipment maintenance, which may be substituted by on the job experience

Experience:

Five years of experience in facilities and equipment maintenance and fabrication.

License or Certificate:

Possession of an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. A good driving record of at least two (2) years duration, as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents. Possession and continuance of a driving record that does not cause adverse effect on the District's automobile insurance rates is required.

Possession of a Class A driver’s license.

Environment: Work is performed in an outdoor field environment and a shop environment with some travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; incumbents may be required to work evenings, weekends, or unusual shifts.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb ladders, stairs, ramps, canals, and ditches; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
