Save Money and the Environment with EasyGreen

When California ’s summer temperatures soar, you can help reduce the costs of staying cool by enrolling in SSJID ’s EasyGreen program.  By simply agreeing to allow South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJJID) to install our FREE, smart technology that works with your central air conditioning unit, you’ll help conserve energy and reduce the chance of power interruptions, brownouts and rolling blackouts during the hottest days of summer.  EasyGreen temporarily reduces the power residential ACs use when the need for electricity in the region becomes critical.  Customers will no doubt save money on their energy bills throughout summer.  And to thank you for your participation, you’ll be eligible for valuable gift card incentives for every air conditioner you enroll!

You can sign up for the EasyGreen program if you have a residential central air conditioner.  Evaporative (swamp) coolers or window/wall-mounted units are NOT eligible. Air conditioning equipment must have an accessible mounting location; the installer may determine that installation is not possible due to certain unit conditions. (Renters must have their landlord’s permission.)  You must live in a single family home or detached condominium.

After you sign-up, we’ll make an appointment with you to install the device.  Our installer will attach a small sensor onto your air conditioner on the outside of your home or condominium.  In addition, you’ll plug in a small thermostat inside your house that will allow your sensor to communicate with control equipment at SSJID ’s office.  When regional energy consumption is at peak load, EasyGreen sends a signal to activate your device, cycling off your AC until the temperature reaches a maximum threshold that you choose, at which time the AC will begin running again.

Typically, most people never notice that the system is activated because average temperatures inside the home remain comfortable due to cycling over a period of several hours only when needed.  EasyGreen operates during peak system periods between 10 am and 7 pm, Monday through Friday on hot summer days and only when necessary.  You’ll be conserving energy because your EasyGreen sensor reduces the demand for electricity during peak hours.  You’ll also assist SSJID in collecting valuable energy-usage data that will aid efforts to lower future energy costs and improve system reliability.

Because we appreciate your effort to lower energy usage during peak summer hours, the program is FREE to all voluntary participants.  The sensor, thermostat, installation and maintenance are all sponsored by SSJID .  Even better is the Visa gift card you will receive after installation of your system.

"We believe SSJID is in a unique position to provide residents with savings and control of their own power."
The Modesto Bee, 1/23/05

At the end of 2004, the District’s 50 year contract with PG&E expired. While the original contract sold power to PG&E at-cost, the new contract sells the power at market price, which means significant new revenues for the District.

As part of SSJID's continuing investment in the future, the Board voted unanimously on June 7, 2005 to proceed with the attempt to purchase Pacific Gas and Electric's distribution network within our service area and provide electric service to Manteca, Escalon, and Ripon.

In an effort to make the most beneficial long term investment of these funds, the Board approved studying the feasibility of purchasing PG&E’s electric lines within SSJID’s service area. SSJID’s service area includes the Cities of Escalon, Ripon, Manteca and the surrounding rural area.
