March 16, 2020 – SSJID Continuing to Deliver Water Supplies While Taking Actions to Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus; Main Offices Closed to the Public

The South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) is taking action to prevent the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) based on the advice provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

SSJID will continue to provide irrigation water to our agricultural customers in and around Manteca, Ripon, and Escalon. SSJID will also continue to deliver safe and reliable, treated drinking water to the Cities of Lathrop, Manteca, and Tracy. Current treatment methods used by SSJID in our water treatment plant are sufficient to disinfect and remove contaminants, including COVID-19. SSJID is also developing operations plans to continue to deliver vital water resources while the threat of COVID-19 continues to grow.

Effective immediately, SSJID will be closing our lobby and main office in Manteca to the general public in order to further prevent the spread of COVID-19. We encourage our customers to pay bills online, by mail, or by utilizing the drop-box outside of the Manteca office. Our customers doing business with our Engineering Department are encouraged to contact Engineering via phone or email and utilize online options as necessary. Please know that our staff are still available to assist you via email or phone. 2 The SSJID Board of Directors remain scheduled to meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. March 25, 2020 – SSJID Board Reaffirms Commitment to Deliver Water While Preventing Coronavirus Spread

The South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) continues to implement actions to prevent the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) based on the advice provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). At the same time, SSJID understands its commitment to our region and will continue to provide water to its irrigation customers and treated drinking water to the Cities of Lathrop, Manteca, and Tracy.
The SSJID Board of Directors discussed and adopted the SSJID’s COVID-19 Action Plan and commended staff for being diligent and committed to fighting COVID-19.
“Delivering water is central to SSJID’s Mission,” says Peter Rietkerk, SSJID General Manager. “In order to keep the water flowing, we need to have a healthy workforce. The response from our employees to adopt numerous changes in procedures and protocols to respond to COVID-19 outbreak has been heartening. They’ve really stepped up to the challenge of fighting the spread of coronavirus while focusing on delivering water to our customers.” The SSJID Board of Directors also conducted yesterday, for the first time, a regular Board meeting using teleconferencing technologies that allow for the public to participate from their homes or from a remote location. SSJID has also reconfigured its Board Room to ensure adequate CDC social distancing guidelines. 2 For City residents in Manteca, Lathrop and Tracy, please continue to expect reliable, high quality treated drinking water from the SSJID Nick DeGroot Treatment Plant. The water treatment process undertaken by SSJID effectively removes viruses like COVID-19 and the common flu.
