March 25, 2020 – SSJID Board Reaffirms Commitment to Deliver Water While Preventing Coronavirus Spread

The South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) continues to implement actions to prevent the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) based on the advice provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). At the same time, SSJID understands its commitment to our region and will continue to provide water to its irrigation customers and treated drinking water to the Cities of Lathrop, Manteca, and Tracy.
The SSJID Board of Directors discussed and adopted the SSJID’s COVID-19 Action Plan and commended staff for being diligent and committed to fighting COVID-19.
“Delivering water is central to SSJID’s Mission,” says Peter Rietkerk, SSJID General Manager. “In order to keep the water flowing, we need to have a healthy workforce. The response from our employees to adopt numerous changes in procedures and protocols to respond to COVID-19 outbreak has been heartening. They’ve really stepped up to the challenge of fighting the spread of coronavirus while focusing on delivering water to our customers.” The SSJID Board of Directors also conducted yesterday, for the first time, a regular Board meeting using teleconferencing technologies that allow for the public to participate from their homes or from a remote location. SSJID has also reconfigured its Board Room to ensure adequate CDC social distancing guidelines. 2 For City residents in Manteca, Lathrop and Tracy, please continue to expect reliable, high quality treated drinking water from the SSJID Nick DeGroot Treatment Plant. The water treatment process undertaken by SSJID effectively removes viruses like COVID-19 and the common flu.
